ConfigMgr Current Branch Setup fails due to TLS 1.2 configuration

By Johan Arwidmark / January 4, 2018

I recently (well yesterday) stumbled across a ConfigMgr Current Branch setup of a new site server failing due to TLS configuration. Turned out that the ConfigMgr 1702 setup (latest baseline as of today) couldn’t install when TLS 1.0 and SSL 3.0 had been removed due to server hardening. The server was Windows Server 2016, and the database SQL was SQL Server 2016 Standard with SP1.

By Johan Arwidmark / December 17, 2017

Back in ConfigMgr Technical Preview 1706, Microsoft introduced IPv6 PXE, a feature you could enable not only on distribution points running on Windows Server OS, but also on Windows Client OS. Effectively having a Windows client configured as a DP also acting as a PXE server. Microsoft MVP Ronni Pedersen (@ronnipedersen), have a blog post on that:

LEDBAT with ConfigMgr = Pure Love? – By Daniel Olsson

By Johan Arwidmark / November 19, 2017

Here is a new post by guest blogger Daniel Olsson @danielolsson100 covering a quite exciting network feature in Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016. Please note that even though LEDBAT was announced already back in July 18, 2016 by the Windows Networking Team. You need to request assistance to enable LEDBAT from either Microsoft or a Microsoft Partner working with that team. That being said, take it away Daniel (and thanks). / Johan

How to run Microsoft Network Monitor in WinPE

By Johan Arwidmark / August 1, 2017

In this guide you learn how to run the Microsoft Network Monitor in WinPE, for example for advanced debugging of OS Deployment issues. This guide is based on the following KB article from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4034393/how-to-get-network-captures-from-a-task-sequence-in-windows-pe. But I’ve added some clarification steps, as well as PowerShell scripts to make the process easier (and automated).

Setting up a FTP Server in the cloud – Microsoft Azure vs. Amazon Web Services

By Johan Arwidmark / June 21, 2017

This week I’ve been volunteering at an event called DreamHack, which is the largest digital festival in the world. I’ve been volunteering for this event quite many years, and this time around I was editing videos and providing support to one of the teams. During the event we learned that we needed to upload some video-material, and even though we obviously could have used OneDrive, Dropbox, etc. to share the content, I decided this was a good opportunity, and a real use case, for the cloud. Simply spinning up a VM with a FTP server for the week, and then turn off the VM once we were done at the event. Worth mentioning is that we needed to transfer 2 – 3 TB of data to/from multiple machines running multiple OS platforms during the event.
